European Union officials and member states have held high-level discussions on the diesel market as tight global conditions continue to keep prices elevated.
The European Commission said its Energy Union Task Force – Security met on 2 October to assess diesel supplies and prices and examine appropriate measures to address the current market situation. The group brings together senior representatives from the Commission and EU countries.
The European Commission said EU diesel supplies remain stable for the time being, while prices remain high because of tight global market conditions. Participants stressed the need for close cooperation and coordination as they considered the available response.
The International Energy Agency also briefed the task force on the progress of the collective oil-stock release launched in March. The Commission did not announce an additional stock release or specify the measures considered during the latest meeting.
The Commission said it will continue monitoring European diesel conditions closely and coordinate further action where necessary.
