BASF has introduced Ultradur® RC1 PBT/PET grades containing up to 30% post-consumer recycled PET for structural automotive components. The 30 September announcement says the glass-fibre-reinforced products have been developed for brackets, housings, structural parts and connectors.
RC1 identifies the use of post-consumer recycled material. BASF said it sources PCR-PET from packaging waste outside established bottle-to-bottle recycling streams, material that would often otherwise be used for energy recovery. The company said the new grades were designed to approach the properties of conventional virgin-material grades, including strength, stiffness and dimensional stability.
BASF said customers could increase recycled content and potentially reduce Scope 3.1 emissions while supporting compliance with recycled-content requirements.
