Borouge International has opened a new specialty polypropylene compounding plant at its Schwechat site in Austria following more than €100 million of investment in the expansion and modernisation of the site.

According to the Lower Austrian state government, the new facility compounds polypropylene resins with recycled polypropylene and performance-enhancing additives. The resulting materials are intended for applications including automotive, household appliances and infrastructure.

The investment increases Borouge International’s production capacity for specialty compounds in Schwechat. Chief Executive Officer Roger Kearns said the expansion adds important capacity to the company’s European production base and supports its growth objectives in selected markets.

Chief Commercial Officer Roland Janssen said the additional production capacity would allow Borouge International to bring advanced and more sustainable material solutions to market more quickly and strengthen local supply to customers.

Borouge International was formed in 2026 through the combination of Borealis, Borouge and NOVA Chemicals. The company is headquartered in Austria, with a regional headquarters in Abu Dhabi and corporate centres in North America and Asia-Pacific.
