BASF has confirmed exploratory talks regarding a potential takeover of Evonik Industries, with discussions involving Evonik and RAG-Stiftung.
The 25 September announcement describes the discussions as exploratory and makes clear that a transaction has not been agreed. BASF said the course and outcome of the talks remain open at this stage.
The discussions come as BASF continues to evaluate acquisitions as part of its corporate strategy. The company said it considers opportunities that strengthen its core businesses, provide a strong strategic fit, support profitable growth and create value.
BASF identifies Chemicals, Materials, Industrial Solutions and Nutrition & Care as its core businesses. Surface Technologies and Agricultural Solutions are operated as standalone businesses within the group’s portfolio.
The company said it will inform the market without delay, in accordance with regulatory requirements, if and to the extent required. BASF generated around €60 billion in sales in 2025 and employs approximately 95,000 people.
