Eurozone September flash PMI rises to 53.1

Eurozone business activity expanded at its fastest rate since April 2023 in September, according to the latest S&P Global flash PMI data. The Composite PMI Output Index rose to 53.1 from 52.0 in August, marking a third consecutive month of expansion.

Growth was recorded across both manufacturing and services. S&P Global said manufacturing was experiencing its strongest growth period for more than four years, led particularly by Germany, while order books strengthened across both sectors.

Germany recorded a third consecutive monthly expansion, with activity growing at the fastest rate in just under a year. France returned to growth for the first time in ten months, while the rest of the eurozone also recorded an increase in output.

Cost pressures also strengthened. Input costs and output prices increased at their fastest rates in four months, with S&P Global attributing part of the rise to higher energy prices during the September survey period.
