European ABS Import Prices Remain Stable in July 2024

July 11, 2024

European ABS import prices remain stable. ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) import prices in Europe appear to be stable in July 2024, showing little change from the previous month, according to GC Intelligence market analysis.

Despite a decrease in domestic prices, the higher freight rates have added an additional €100-200 per metric ton (MT). This means importers are struggling to remain competitive against European domestic prices.

The price of ABS imports from Asia to Europe is understood to be within a range of €1800-1900/MT.

With domestic prices falling once again in July compared to June in Europe, the gap between domestic prices and imports has narrowed significantly.

This close price gap, combined with lead times of up to three months, has made buyers less confident in booking imports.

ABS imports account for a significant portion of the European market. Should this trend continue, European suppliers could experience increased demand during the summer months, which are typically slower.

However, it is too early to predict a tightening of the market. A sudden spike in demand could mean domestic suppliers might not be able to increase their operating rates quickly enough, potentially leading to a scenario of market tightness despite poor domestic demand in Europe.
