EU CONSTRUCTION GROWTH CONTINUES IN DECEMBER 2023

EU construction growth continues. Eurostat reports a 0.8% rise in euro area construction production and a 1.3% increase in the EU for December 2023 versus November 2023.

According to Eurostat, November saw a decline, with construction falling by 0.4% in the euro area and 0.5% in the EU.

Year-on-year, December 2023 shows a 1.9% growth in the euro area and a 2.4% increase in the EU’s construction sector.

2023’s annual construction output slightly rose by 0.2% in the euro area and 0.1% in the EU compared to 2022.

Building construction surged by 1.1% in the euro area, while civil engineering dropped by 0.6% in December 2023.

In the EU, building construction grew by 1.4%, but civil engineering fell by 1.1% in the same period.

Romania, Poland, and Hungary led monthly construction growth, while Slovakia, Germany, and Austria saw significant declines.

Romania, Poland, and Belgium experienced the highest annual construction growth, contrasting with declines in Slovakia, Austria, and Sweden.
