PMMA imports show significant growth. In February 2023, the total imports of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) into the EU27 region witnessed a substantial increase.
According to the latest trade data from Eurostat, imports of PMMA reached 5,517 metric tons in February this year. This reflected a notable surge compared to the same period last year.
Compared to February 2022, where the PMMA imports stood at 3,209 metric tons, there was a remarkable rise of 2,308 metric tons or approximately 72%.
Furthermore, when comparing the data to February 2021, PMMA imports were recorded at 2,983 metric tons. This represents an even more significant increase of 2,534 metric tons or approximately 85%.
The data demonstrates a sustained upward trend in the importation of PMMA over the past two years.
The surge in PMMA imports can be attributed to various factors but mainly to competitive imports.
During the past year, a surge in costs in Europe on the back of higher energy prices and lower demand in Asia were the main drivers.
