BASF launches acrylic complex. BASF has initiated construction of a state-of-the-art acrylic acid complex at its Zhanjiang Verbund site in China.

Scheduled for operation in 2025, the new facility will produce glacial acrylic acid (GAA), butyl acrylate (BA), and 2-ethylhexyl acrylate (2-EHA).

The facility will have annual capacity of approximately 400,000 metric tons of BA and 100,000 metric tons of 2-EHA.

This development aims to address the surging demand for acrylics across various industries in China and the Asia Pacific region.

The facilities would support growth in industries such as hygiene, paint, and coatings.

The complex will be fully integrated into the Zhanjiang Verbund site. This enables a reliable supply of high-quality products with reduced lead times for regional customers.

Acrylic acid acts as a crucial precursor for superabsorbent polymers, while industries use BA and 2-EHA as essential raw materials for adhesives and coatings.
