Construction remains healthy in the EU in January according to the latest data from Eurostat. A recent press release shows that production in construction increased 4.8 percent in January 2022 compared to January 2021.
This reading represents a rebound from the trend seen a few months ago. But while the figures represent a healthy industry, market participants voiced concerns of possible slowdowns later in the year.
For example, some said the current healthy activity for them relates more to working the backlog created during the pandemic than new business.

And there is an overall fear of inflationary pressures over consumer demand in the coming months. A slowdown in economic activity has every potential to weaken even the most resilient industries.
The construction industry to this day remains the best performing market segment for the polymer industry.
But the geopolitical crisis in the Ukraine fueling the threat of inflation has the potential to reverse this trend also for this important market.
