Trinseo announced prices decreases on polystyrene (PS) in September on its website, following the recent decrease in the styrene contract price.
Trinseo noted that general purpose polystyrene (GPPS) will decrease €65/mt from August and high impact polystyrene (HIPS) €55/mt.
And the price changes will be effective from the first of September and will apply to contract and spot prices.
For September, the styrene monomer contract price decreased €91/mt from August.
The styrene market has seen high volatility this year, peaking in the spring and gradually coming down in Q3.
In addition, PS supply has improved during the past couple of months and now players are experiencing a more balanced market.
However, HIPS remains somewhat short and as a result the price gap with GPPS has been getting wider.
