Polymer buyers face delays of up to 6 months as supply disruptions inflict more damage on the industry.

As the pandemic continues in Europe, it is prolonging market distortions across value chains.

In addition, the US power outages wreaked havoc on the region’s polymer industry.

Some players air shipped emergency supplies from Europe to the US to avoid shutdowns.

And as disruptions accumulate, polymer buyers face delays on deliveries of up to 6 months.

One buyer of nylon 66 (PA66) said a supplier can deliver at the earliest in October.

Another buyer said they also faced long lead times, of up to 30 weeks.

The delays mean that if another major event were to hit the market, some players along the value chain may have no choice but to shut down production.

As activity starts to ground to a halt, it could ignite a domino effect, a nightmare scenario that will most certainly tip the industry over the edge.
