A host of supply disruptions amid strong demand are causing extreme shortages of PC in Europe.
Trinseo hikes PC prices by €600/mt in Europe in March, according to a press note.
The increases will be effective from 1 March 2021 and will apply to both contracts and spot prices.
As seen in most polymer markets, the European polycarbonate (PC) market has suffered from a multitude of disruptions.
While costs increased, the lack of raw materials has impacted production and shortened the market.
In addition, the shortage of containers reduced and delayed imports, which exacerbated the situation.
And the the latest bad weather in the US further reduced global availability.
What is more, with demand already strong, the shortages fuelled a spike in orders, tightening supply further and adding more upward pressure on prices.
And with the pandemic continuing, players will most likely have to wait at least much later in 2021 for a rebalance of the global PC market.
