The pandemic continues to cause critical shortages and high prices, a situation seen across many markets.
MMA spot prices surge above €2,000/mt in February in Europe, according to market sources.
While contracts in Q1 hovered around €1,600-1,700/mt, low supply meant spot buyers faced hefty prices.
And it seems the lack of acetone is the primary cause for the low global supply of methyl methacrylate (MMA).
In some markets, such as the US, the shortages have become critical and MMA export offers to the region reached €2,500/mt.
However, the current situation is not limited to the MMA market. Almost all polymer markets are experiencing a similar scenario, namely a multitude of disruptions limiting supply across the value chain.
