PMMA PRICES INCREASED €115/MT IN JANUARY

January 22, 2021

The current upward trend should continue at least for the rest of Q1.

PMMA prices increased €115/mt in January on the back of good demand and tight supply, according to GC Intelligence analysis.

Demand has been holding up well, despite the lockdowns across Europe.

The demand for polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) protective sheets has slowed but continues.

There was also some seasonal slowdown in the construction industry but activity is better than last year.

Meanwhile, many market segments have been thriving, such as automotive and DIY.

On the supply side, the continuous global shortage of acetone has placed pressure on costs. The shortage upstream has also impacted production of PMMA.

Methyl methacrylate (MMA) spot prices have surged, reaching above €1,800/mt.

Another factor that tightened supply is the ongoing shipping disruptions, which reduced imports.

With a much tighter market and good demand, sellers have been able to secure increases.
