PS DEMAND SLOWS SLIGHTLY IN EARLY JANUARY

January 11, 2021
But sellers should still be able to pass on the steep increases in styrene.

PS demand slows slightly in early January in Europe as construction activity eases.

However, overall demand remains upbeat.

Polystyrene (PS) was surprisingly strong in December, which was contrary to expectations.

But it seems that for some markets the seasonal ease is instead happening in January.

But so far this reduction in activity is mild, unlikely to offset the good overall demand.

Besides, it is expected that during the winter months, the sector is less active, even if the pandemic is disrupting such patterns.

Nevetheless, other segmens, such as appliances, fridges, packaging are still upbeat.

As such, January looks set to support sellers in passing on the steep increases in styrene, with room also to improve margins on some accounts.
