The good demand and lower availability should support higher prices in Q1.
DSM announced price increases on PA6 and PA66 in January in Europe, citing raw material cost increases.
The announcement comes amid a backdrop of tightening market conditions for both nylon 6 (PA6) and nylon 66 (PA66)
For most of H1 2020, nylon engineering resins demand suffered because of low demand.
But since the summer, a recovery has gathered pace and continues to do so in January.
As prices increased for some in December, there is a strong chance that this trend will continue in Q1.
DSM noted that PA6 unfilled grades will increase €165/mt, and PA6 and PA66 compounds €140/mt.
The increases will help absorb the higher costs, such as benzene which has recovered since plummeting in April, posting triple-digit increases in December.
