BASF increases prices of PBT and BDO from 1 December, the company said.
A note on the website stated that polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) prices will increase €175/mt.
Meanwhile, BASF’s 1,4-butanediol (BDO) price will increase €300/mt according to the note.
BDO together with purified terephthalic acid (PTA) or dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) goes to make PBT.
PBT finds some of its uses in electrical and electronics housings, connectors for automotive, and brush bristles.

PBT quarterly prices in Europe declined throughout 2020, with the pandemic amplifying the downward pressure which was already there because of a weak auto sector.
But most market segments, including automotive, have rebounded since the summer.
The electrical and electronic sector appears to be leading the charge in this latest rebound.
The overall recovery in demand and higher costs in H1 should provide the right market environment for higher prices of PBT.
