The companies had planned to complete these projects in 2020 but the pandemic caused delays.

ABS new capacities will start in H1 2021 in Europe, according to reliable sources.

The additional supply could help to balance a tight acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) market in Europe.

In the past few months, a lack of imports and good demand has decreased availability.

For some buyers, the situation has become critical as they are unable to get the volumes needed.

Moreover, there is a strong chance that the current situation will persist well into 2021.

Therefore, the 90,000 extra capacity expected in the first half of the year could help to ease any tightness.

INEOS Styrolution will add 55,000 ton/year of ABS in Wingles, France. And the company plans to start production in Q1.

Meanwhile, Versalis will increase capacity by 35,000 ton/year in Mantova, Italy, with start-up expected in Q3.

The two companies had planned these projects for 2020. However, the pandemic in the spring and stringent lockdowns caused delays.
