A tighter market allowed sellers to improve margins.
Styrene Acrylonitrile (SAN) prices increased in Europe in September, according to GC Intelligence monthly assessments.
However, the increases for most players were around a modest €15/mt. But depending on the starting point, some also managed to keep prices unchanged.
With a slight decrease in the main cost, namely styrene, producers were able to increase margins.
SAN prices increased in Europe in September mainly on the back of tighter market conditions.
While demand is improving from the lows reached in the spring, support also came from a seasonal pick up after the summer holidays.
And as seen in the Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) market, a reduction in imports helped to tighter supply.
Nevertheless, the ongoing pandemic continues to impact downstream markets.
And some of the worst-hit segments remain aviation and transportation, catering and cosmetics.
