The market is weak and unable to support any increases.
Polycarbonate (PC) prices in Europe rolled over in August across all grades, according to GC Intelligence price assessments.
Some sellers were aiming to increases prices on the back of higher benzene numbers and better demand.
But the increases did not go through on most accounts as the market has remained weak.
Demand has not picked up, especially from the automotive industry.
At the same time, producers are still fighting for volumes on many accounts, an indication that oversupply persists.
PC prices in Europe rolled over in August also because of the seasonal slowdown in the summer.
As demand is slowly increasing and costs are higher, it is unlikely that prices will fall in the near term.
But at the same time, with a sluggish recovery and heightened uncertainty, prices will most probably remain flat or post small increases in the next few months.
