LONDON (GC Intelligence) – Trinseo, a global manufacturer of plastics, latex and rubber, announced earlier in November, price decreases for polystyrene (PS).
Effective from 1 November 2019, contract and spot prices will decrease €45/mt for all General Purpose Polystyrene (GPPS) and High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS) grades.
The announcement comes amid lower styrene monomer contract prices in November of €65/mt and falling spot prices.
The recent falls in styrene prices are in line with seasonal trends. Prices normally start to fall in October and November, remaining relatively unchanged in December and January, before recovering in February.
Some of PS applications include packaging, containers, trays, yogurt containers, CD and DVD cases, and disposable cutlery.
The major producers of polystyrene in Europe are INEOS Styrolution, Trinseo and Total.
